A few days ago a friend posted the picture in this article on his Facebook page without adding a comment or tagline to it. Obviously it’s a futuristic bicycle but letting my imagination roam free here’s what I responded with to the post as well as the follow-up responses that were added.
My comment: “It’s a letter opener, right?” to which he responded, “I thought it was a can opener.”
This morning when I turned the computer there was another comment from a woman saying,
“Might be able to use the front wheel to open screw top jars and the leaver at the top to adjust the wheel in and out. Just a guess but let me know when you find out what it really is.”
After reading the comment this morning I sat back in my chair and thought to myself how wonderful it is to have an imagination and what a great tool it is to change. To have the ability to look at a picture like this and see so many variations. It brought to mind a time as a child looking up at clouds forming in the sky and imagining what the shapes look like.
Imagination is probably the most important gift available to man to create change. If you realize it imagination is used as a catalyst of virtually every decision made. In order for us to act on something we must first have a thought however the thought alone does not create the action. The action comes from imagining the thought. It’s the creative process of what to do with the thought. An example would be the thought of creating a bicycle such as the one in the picture. Once the thought of the bicycle occurred then the imagination would take over in deciding how the wheels would look, the body, the seat and handlebars. They might imagine it looking futuristic like this one or maybe an old-fashioned one with wire wheels and fenders.
We now know through the study of hypnosis and the mind that whatever the mind focuses on, it creates. We create our own lives and affect the lives of those around us through our imagination. In order to be happy you need to imagine yourself being happy. If you cannot imagine yourself being wealthy then you most likely will not be.
The imagination helps us paint the picture so we can see things clearly. If we like what we imagine then we move towards it. If we don’t like it then our imagination can wipe it off the drawing board and imagine something completely different. The choice is up to you
It’s amazing to see that the most creative people in society have the most effective imaginations. That’s one of the things I like most about most about young children; they feel they can do anything in life because of their unlimited imagination. They haven’t had the restrictions placed on them by society of what they can and can’t do yet. They haven’t been taught that they are limited by their religion, gender, political affiliation, race, standing in society or education; that comes later on. For the time being everything is a possibility and their imagination is allowed to run free.
So take some time to look at this picture and let your imagination run free. Not only is it fun but it’s a great exercise in stress reduction. Sit back, let go of the outside world and allow yourself to expand your mind. What does it look like to you?
