“Did you know there’s a very simple way to eliminate peoples’ stress in just a few minutes or less?” This is a process that can be used in person or on the telephone; it requires no equipment, books or relaxation techniques and can be done virtually anywhere. The only thing it does require is the use of imagination.
Let’s face it; stress is a major contributing factor in virtually every major or minor disorder today. Everything from psoriasis and depression all the way up to heart attack and stroke are normally a result of stress. In fact the average human being today lives approximately 80% of their waking life in a state of stress. Not only are they stressed about things occurring within their own lives and environment but with the advent of the Internet, cell phones and other technology they’re now affected by stressful situations that occur worldwide. It’s as if all the problems of the world can now be shared right in the privacy of their own homes.
The problem that this causes is that the immune system will not operate properly in a state of stress. So if your immune system is not working properly for 80% of your waking day, what do you think the results will be? That’s enough about harping on the problem now let’s concentrate on a simple solution.
Your conscious waking state where you’re busy working and active is a brainwave state where stress is the most prevalent. It’s known as the Beta brainwave state. The more you relax, the less stress will affect you. The important thing to understand is that in the Theta brainwave state there’s no stress. So basically all you have to do is bring the person you’re working with into the Theta brainwave state to stop stress in its tracks.
Don’t worry if you’re not familiar with the brainwave states because that’s not really what this article is about; all you need to know is that the Theta brainwave state is the state of “now”. Stress exists in the future and in the past but it does not exist in the now. Think about it; you stress about something that did happen in the past or something that’s going to happen but as for right now everything is okay just the way it is. So if someone is stressed about something that has happened or is going to happen all you need to do is bring their thought process to the now and you’ve eliminated the stress.
So how do you bring someone to the now? I’m glad you finally asked. Here’s a simple technique that you can use in person or even on the telephone. As mentioned earlier it incorporates the use of imagination. The only prop that you do need is a relaxing picture that you can describe to the subject. This picture can be a painting or poster on the wall, a postcard, a picture in a magazine or book, or even something relaxing that you found on your computer or cell phone. The picture should be something relaxing such as a sunset, a soaring bird, a calm lake or similar type setting.
Now that you have your picture and your subject in front of you this is what you say to them:
“I’d like you to look at this relaxing picture that I have and imagine that you’re speaking to me about it on the telephone right now. Imagine that I’m an artist and that I can paint in color extremely fast. Now since I’m on the telephone and I can’t see the picture I’d like you to describe it to me over the telephone in as much detail as you can so I can listen to your description and paint it as you describe it. Be sure to describe the colors accurately and where each feature is in relationship to each other so I can paint them properly on my end. Go ahead and do that now as you imagine me painting it on the other end of the phone. Take your time and be as detailed as possible”
As your subject begins to describe the picture to you notice how their facial features begin to relax and let go within just a few short moments. The more they get into describing the picture the more they’ll let go of outside influences. Soon they’ll be completely focus on the now which is describing the picture and stress will have completely left. You can let them continue describing the picture if you like or once you see they’ve calmed down you can stop them and ask how they feel. You’ll find that they’ll notice a definite difference.
Try it when you find yourself feeling stressed to see how it works. I think you’ll be surprised at how quickly you’ll let go and feel more relaxed.
